Regions Bank on Court Street, downtown Fulton, will move operations to Columbia in August.

Regions Bank officials confirmed Wednesday the Fulton branch will consolidate and move all operations to Columbia. The branch will close Aug. 23, spokesperson Mel Campbell said.

"The Fulton branch will consolidate on Aug. 23, 2019 into the Providence Road Branch in Columbia," he added. "Regions has three other locations in the area - two in Columbia and one in Jefferson City."

The way people manage their money has changed over the years, and this consolidation is a response to that.

Campbell sent an official statement, which said: "As customer expectations for service and convenience have increased, Regions' focus has been on making prudent investments to continuously improve customer service options and the customer experience. With this strategy, we also rely on a continuous and rigorous review of data, locations and policies to ensure the most efficient use of available resources, which recently identified opportunities to consolidate based on traffic, new technology, volume, location of other branches, profitability, and other data."

Employees of the Fulton branch have already been notified, Campbell said.

"We will work with associates to find other opportunities for them at Regions, where possible," he added.

Campbell said he was unsure when the branch opened, and it had been several acquisitions ago.
