State troopers also reported a fatal car accident in Callaway County that occurred 9:20 p.m. Jan. 3.

The crash killed Charles C. Eichholz, 82, of Westphalia, an occupant in a 2019 Chevrolet 2500 truck driven by William T. Schulte, 78, also of Westphalia.

Schulte was driving west on U.S. 54 near County Road 318, following a 2008 Ford Escape driven by Justin C. Ward, 22, of New Bloomfield.

The Ford Escape slowed, and troopers said it made an improper left turn from the right lane, causing the truck to hit it. The Escape skidded into the median and stopped while the truck came to rest in the left westbound lane.

Eichholz was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. This is Troop F's first traffic fatality in 2019.

Other area accidents

A Tebbetts man was involved in a two-motorcycle accident reported at 2:19 p.m. Monday, according to Jefferson City police.

Christopher Anderson, 69, was riding a 2000 Harley Davidson southbound on Missouri 179 at Truman Boulevard. Another motorcycle, a 2011 Harley Davidson, driven by Scott West, 48, of Jefferson City, was traveling north on 179 going through the intersection on a green light.

Anderson began to make a turn in front of West, causing the motorcycles to collide. West was thrown from his motorcycle.

Both men were transported to a hospital with moderate injuries. Police said both drivers were wearing non-MoDOT-approved helmets.

Two Callaway County residents involved in another traffic accident last weekend were taken to St. Mary's Hospital by private conveyance, according to state troopers.

A 2010 Honda Civic was destroyed after a crash at 12:15 a.m. Saturday on County Road 4008 near County Road 4006. The car was driven by Jodie E. Gordon, 22, of New Bloomfield. Alexzandria E. McCullough, 20, of Holts Summit, was a passenger.

Troopers reported the driver over corrected and ran off the left side of the road, striking a large boulder.
