United Credit Union hosted its ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday at its new Fulton branch.

The new building had been a work in progress over the past six months, CEO Brent Sadler said. The building of a new branch was spurred by the lack of parking capacity at the previous location down the road.

"We started having these conversations about a new branch over the past year-and-a-half or so. We had to do something," Sadler said.

The new branch opened its doors last month and became fully operational the Monday after Thanksgiving, said Tamera Tateosian, executive director of the Callaway County Chamber of Commerce. Tateosian said the ribbon-cutting ceremony gave those involved in the project and community members a chance to see the new facility.

Local contractor Glove Con kicked off construction during the heavy rain and flooding over the summer. Sadler credits the speedy construction to the fact the new location's lot was already paved, rather than being a patch of dirt.

"I appreciate everyone coming on out today. If it weren't for people in the community helping us grow this wouldn't be a possibility," branch manager Greg Newsome said.

A number of local business leaders and city and county government officials attended the ceremony.

Sadler said he is most excited for having a larger area to serve people in the local community. He explained these new buildings should be expected as the credit union has been growing quickly over recent years.

"It wouldn't surprise me if, in eight or nine years, we're looking for another location," Sadler said.
