School board to consider April ballot language

The Board of Education on Wednesday will vote to finalize the language for an April 2020 ballot issue that would fund building improvements throughout the district.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at Fulton High School.

In November, the board gave preliminary approval to the ballot language for Proposition S, which would allow the district to borrow $27.5 million without an increase of their current debt service levy at $0.7612 per $100 of assessed valuation. The money would fund a number of district projects including site development, security enhancements, a gymnasium addition at FHS, theatre improvements at FHS, additional classrooms at Fulton Middle School and much more.

A section of the preliminary language outlines room for either a new building for a kindergarten center or purchasing an existing building for new classrooms. The language also states there would be parking lot additions at the different buildings, HVAC and plumbing improvements, and completion of repairs and improvements to the existing facilities of the district.

Additionally, there will be a presentation at Wednesday's meeting concerning the equitable distribution of funds throughout each building in the district. The proposed ballot language can be viewed at https://bit.ly/2E0yUDh.

In other business, the board consider adding four new courses to the curriculum at FHS for the 2020-2021 school year. According to the board packet, the new courses are Portfolio 2, Intro to Education, Practicum in Education and AP Physics 2 Honors.

The board will also vote on whether it will hear from the Options Review Committee concerning daycare in the district. FPS Superintendent Jacque Cowherd recommends the board hear from the committee and provide direction for the 2020-2021 school year.
