Update on shooting expected Wednesday

The Fulton Police Department will be giving updates Wednesday regarding the fatal shooting that occurred Saturday morning.

According to FPD Chief Steve Myers, the department has decided to postpone its update on the situation until Wednesday. Myers said Christopher Wilson, Callaway County's prosecuting attorney, has requested the FPD hold off releasing any additional information until Wilson was able to review the details.

"While we originally planned to give an update on the situation (Tuesday), our prosecuting attorney asked that we hold off until (Wednesday) so he can look over the case," Myers said.

Officers responded to the 600 block of Jefferson Street at approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a gunshot. Arriving officers discovered a person who was shot. That person was taken to an area hospital and was later pronounced dead.

According to Wilson, the autopsy is scheduled for this morning. He said, as of Tuesday evening, he has not yet reviewed the case, and he will meet with FPD detectives Wednesday to be "briefed on the investigation."

There is no formal press conference planned for when the updates will be given, just a news release, according to Myers.

Anyone with information that might help Fulton police with their investigation into this incident is asked to call the department at (573) 592-3100 or Callaway County Crimestoppers at (573) 592-2474.
