Man arrested on domestic assault charges

A Fulton man previously convicted three times for domestic assault was arrested again Tuesday.

John W. Murrell Jr., 36, was arrested for two counts of second-degree domestic assault, one count of third-degree domestic assault, three counts of third-degree kidnapping and one count of first-degree rape or attempted rape.

Officer Skyler Kinney, of the Fulton Police Department, said the department received a report of domestic assault at 10:12 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Christopher Lane.

According to the probable cause statement, the victim told police Murrell had assaulted her multiple times over the course of several days in October, begining after the two had an argument. She told police he choked her, pushed her, knocked her head against a wall, pulled her around by her hair and slapped her.

The victim stated that on each occasion of violence, she attempted to leave the residence and Murrell prevented her from doing so. He also prevented her from allowing access to a phone, she said.

"(The victim) said she feared for her life on each occasion and thought Murrell was going to kill her," Kinney stated. "(She) said she was not able to make the report any sooner due to being scared of Murrell (who) would not let her out of his sight."

Missouri Casenet records previous domestic assault convictions for Murrell dating to 2001, 2014 and 2015.
