A Fulton man was arrested for drug possession late Monday after a car chase in western Callaway County.

According to Sheriff Clay Chism, James C. Adams, 29, was booked and processed for felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Adams remains in custody pending court set bond of $4,500.

Chism said a Callaway County Sheriff's Office deputy was patrolling the Route KK area Monday and came upon a suspicious vehicle at 11:06 p.m. As the deputy approached the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed and then later stopped on County Road 218. The deputy made subsequent contact with Adams, the driver.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming.

Callaway County deputies continue work with other law enforcement agencies and community partners to curb drug abuse throughout the county, which so many times lead to other offenses such as burglary and stealing, Chism said.Residents can report drug-related activity to Crimestopper's at 573-592-2474 or visit callawaysheriff.org.
