Saturday's "Blues 'n Ques" event has been canceled, according to city officials.
Clay Caswell, director of Fulton's department of parks and recreation, said this year's event did not gain enough steam in the community and had a lackluster response from potential contestants in the barbecue contest.
"We only ended up with three barbecue contestants," he said. "We used to get around eight or 10 guys. Maybe we'll do it at a better time next year."
Caswell said the department is exploring the option of holding the event simultaneously with next summer's Fulton Street Fair.
Nevertheless, city officials are mourning the cancellation of the event, Caswell added.
"It kind of stinks," he said. "Hopefully, we can get it going next year."
