Maybe it was the people, the vendors, the music - or everything else. Whatever the attraction, last weekend's 13th annual Fulton Street Fair was a rousing success, according to local officials.

"It turned out terrific," said Fulton Police Chief Steve Myers. "We had a great fair."

Myers said there were no major crime incidents at the two-day fair, and he had 12 to 15 officers on the streets, just in case.

"That's what it's all about," Myers said about fair-goers coming out to have a good time.

Doc Kritzer, Callaway County commissioner, said he was pleased with the overall turnout of the fair. Kritzer said his relatives, who came to Fulton for the street fair, didn't want to leave.

"I think it was definitely a big hit," he said. "I saw lots of smiles on everybody's faces."

Kritzer pointed to the sponsors, vendors, food and scheduled events as a formula for a successful fair. He showed his enthusiasm for the fair when he ate 130 crawfish in the "Hit the Crik" crawfish-eating contest.

"It's all for fun," Kritzer said about the contest.

The 20-member street fair committee will have a wrap-up meeting after July 4, he added.
