Kingdom City trustees approve budget, discuss projects

KINGDOM CITY - Kingdom City village trustees approved their 2016-17 budget of $231,455 Tuesday.

Actual expenditures for the 2015-16 budget year, which ended June 30, totaled $250,564.41. A line item for capital outlay (system improvement) was expected to decrease by $49,080.36.

City Manager Curt Warfield said the general budget includes funds set aside to fix issues such as equipment and utilities. The transportation budget includes funds for police, road repairs and snow removal.

According to the budget, Kingdom City expects to bring in $205,450 in 2016-17 from sources including utilities, miscellaneous income and interest. Officials plan to transfer $26,005 from their general account to complete their funding needs for the upcoming year.

Last year, the village installed new water meters. This year, officials plan to install an 8-inch, 1,200-foot-long water main from Thunderbird Drive east on County Road 148, Warfield said. The project will help the bus barn facility at North Callaway High School and assist with fire protection, he added.

"We've seen a little bit better sales on our new meters," Warfield added.

The new water meters have also helped reduce leaks and improve monitoring capability.

The 2015-16 actual cost for water system repair, maintenance and supplies was $5,879.20, compared to the $20,000 estimated in the 2016-17 budget.

The actual income for the water and waste-water account for 2015-16 was $207,025.37 and is estimated at $205,450 for 2016-17.

The actual sales tax for 2015-16 was $455,141.82; the 2016-2017 estimated amount is $445,000.

Lower gasoline prices have increased revenues from travelers spending money at hotels, restaurants and other businesses in Kingdom City.

"We had one of the best sales tax last year," Warfield said.
