AUXVASSE - Shea Smith, of Auxvasse, was crowned the Callaway Youth Expo's 2016 4-H queen Tuesday afternoon at the North Callaway Elementary gym in Auxvasse.

"Super happy," is how the 14-year-old described her emotions after the event.

The Callaway Youth Expo runs until Saturday at the Auxvasse Lions Club Park/Arena.

The 4-H royalty and speech contests were open to boys and girls who shared their passion for 4-H, according to event organizers.

For Cassidy Murphy, 10, of Williamsburg, participation in 4-H has helped her realize her dreams.

"I have many 4-H projects this year," she said. "All of them have been a great learning experience for me."

King and queen contestants were asked a variety of questions. Then, the contestants had to present speeches about four minutes in length.

In her speech, Smith said she assists with welding, beef and horse projects as a part of 4-H. She also said she enjoys getting to know other club members.

"I get to go to club meetings and be with my friends," she said. "I think 4-H is a great way to meet people."

As the president of the Hatton 4-H Club, Smith has been able to meet other 4-H participants at state functions.

Other event winners were:

4-H King: Josh Riecke, 14, of Fulton;

Mr. Clover: Dallas Smith, 7, of Auxvasse;

Ms. Clover: Amelia Schweiss, 6, of Fulton;

Duke: Lee Butcher, 8, of Fulton;

Duchess: Jaden Smithee, 9, of Fulton;

Prince: Hunter Fansler, 10, of Auxvasse;

Princess: Cassidy Murphy, 10, of Williamsburg.

With the title of queen comes responsibility, Smith said.

"I have to come to the fair every day and hand out ribbons," Smith said.

For those thinking of joining 4-H, Smith advised to give the organization a try because it teaches responsibility, allows for real life experiences such public speaking and is a great way to meet people.
