Helias Catholic High School's show choir, Impact, will take audiences to another galaxy during this year's Just Desserts performance at the school in Jefferson City.

The annual fundraising kick-off performance at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Helias' old gymnasium pairs tasty treats with an engaging space-themed choir performance. The price of admission - $10 for adults, $5 for students - buys attendees a dessert and a drink. Desserts will also be auctioned off throughout the night, and there's a silent auction.

Impact President Leah Stiefermann, a senior, said the performance starts off with an upbeat song and then moves into another song called, "On My Way," that ties to them getting ready to go into space. They'll also be singing "Space Cowboys" - not the one that often comes to mind - and a mash-up of "Elevate" from Big Time Rush and "Starships" by Nicki Minaj.

Stiefermann's favorite song is the ballad, "No Boundaries."

"We have a really captivating ballad and it talks about how no matter what you're doing in life, you can always expect to succeed," she said. "I feel like for me, it's saying there's no boundaries in what you can do in your life and there's nothing that can stop you except for you."

The money raised will help fund costumes, sets, transportation, purchase rights for the songs they arrange and pay for the choreographers, said Director Jana Fox.

They have two new choreographers, Chris Kindle and Stephen Weeks, who have brought fresh energy to the group, she said.

"A lot of people really look forward to this and that's really nice to hear," Fox said. "People in the community and families and people at Helias really look forward to coming and seeing it. We try to do the best show we can and it's also really nice to have all the parent's involvement because they plan everything and all I do is get the performance ready."
