New Bloomfield boys track and field wins Russellville HS Open Meet

RUSSELLVILLE -- New Bloomfield boys track and field won the team title, and South Callaway finished fifth out of 14 teams in the Russellville HS Open Meet Tuesday at Russellville High School.

The Wildcats scored 135½ points, winning the team trophy by 27, and the Bulldogs had 69.

Four of New Bloomfield's six first-place finishes came from its relay teams. The Wildcats won the 4x100-meter relay (46.63 seconds), 4x200 (1:39.17), 4x400 (3:56.80) and 4x800 (9:34.50).

Ben Speaks won the 200 dash for the Wildcats at :23.20, and Trenton Boessen topped the leaderboard in the javelin for New Bloomfield at 128 feet and 4.55 inches.

Colten Crocker earned South Callaway's lone gold medal, winning the pole vault at 12-11.91.

The Wildcats' second-place finishers were Speaks in the 100 dash (:11.40), Conor Lawrence in the 800 run (2:19.70), and Hunter Rackers in the pole vault (10-11.89).

The Bulldogs' silver medalists were Lee Butcher in the discus, with a personal record of 120-8.03, and Nathan Russell in the javelin at 127-5.13.

Riley Connell posted New Bloomfield's 10th and final medalist performance, placing third in the 3,200 run (11:46.60).

South Callaway tallied three bronze medals: Tayber Gray with a PR of :11.70 in the 100 dash, Ayden Munford with a PR of :17.50 in the 110 hurdles and Nathan Hecktor in the javelin at 126-10.83.

The Bulldogs compete in the Blair Oaks Invitational at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at Blair Oaks High School in Wardsville.

The Wildcats host the New Bloomfield Wildcat Relays at 2 p.m. Friday at New Bloomfield High School.
