Blue Jays begin outdoor season at CMU Open

FAYETTE -- The Westminster College men's and women's track and field teams started the outdoor season competing in the CMU Open Saturday in Fayette.

Kalie Strayhorn set school records in the women's 100--and 200-meter dash. She won the 200 dash and set the sixth fastest time in NCAA Division III.

Elijah Teal set a school record in the men's 200 dash and placed fourth.

Moenasia Sidique finished third in the women's 400 dash.

Women's results

Strayhorn won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.24 seconds, the sixth fastest time in NCAA Division III. She also placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.52.

Sidique placed third overall in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:02.97, and 15th overall in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 27.74.

Natalie Stewart placed fifth in the women's javelin toss with 108 feet and 8.72 inches.

Emma Braby placed 16th in the women's shot put with a throw of 31-08.31. She also placed eighth in the women's javelin toss with a throw of 108-08.72.

Men's results

Teal placed fourth overall in the men's 100 dash with a time of 11.11. He also placed fourth overall in the men's 200 dash with a time of 22.53 and set a new school record in the event.

Michael Giles placed ninth overall in the men's 1,500 run at 4:24.28. He finished 13th in the men's 3,000 run at 9:40.01.

Lane Martin placed 22nd in the men's 3,000 run at 10:49 and set a new personal best for himself. He also finished 28th in the men's 1,500 run at 5:07.32.

Bryce Hale finished 14th in the men's javelin toss with a throw of 104-10.66.

The Blue Jays will be back in action next Saturday when they compete in the Miner Invite, hosted by Missouri S&T in Rolla.
