FAYETTE -- After wrapping up a solid season with men's basketball, Kyle Belgrave II debuted for William Woods track and field with a pair of top-five marks in the WWU record books Saturday.

"It was a good start to the outdoor season for the majority of our team," William Woods track and field coach Dan Schwab said in a release. "Kyle Belgrave II solidified his spot in the WWU record books in both the long jump and high jump. Natalie Thomas opened the year with a strong mark in the javelin, and a number of freshmen had solid openers in their first meet."

Belgrave turned in a solid performance in the long jump, posting the top mark among NAIA competitors by nearly 6 inches (22-9) and coming up just under three-quarters of an inch behind Division I competitor Nashon Houston from UMKC. Accounting for wind conditions, Belgrave bested Houston head-to-head, with both of Belgrave's jumps with less than 39.37 inches/second of wind outdistancing all four of Houston's efforts under the same conditions.

Belgrave wasn't the only two-sport athlete to shine in its track and field debut for, Woods, as Thomas posted a strong mark in the javelin, hitting 124-4 on her final effort. The mark outpaced her nearest NAIA competitor at the meet by better than roughly 6-06.74 and is the sixth-best effort in the country. She came up just shy of the NAIA 'B' standard of 129-07.12.

The Owls return to Fayette for their next meet, competing in the CMU Invitational on March 29.
