Ask a Master Gardener: CMMG to host spring garden seminar

Are you interested to learn about various topics in horticulture and gardening in Jefferson City?

The University of Missouri Extension in Cole County, in collaboration with Central Missouri Master Gardeners (CMMG), is organizing a full-day Spring Garden Seminar on Feb. 24 in the Cole County Extension Center, Jefferson City.

The seminar provides education to the gardeners about various horticultural topics including proven winners -- new annuals and perennials, resilient ornamental small tress and shrubs, and trends in vegetable gardening.

Participants also learn about irrigation system in the garden such as selection, design and setup.

There will be a panel discussion among CMMG about their favorite garden tools and their reviews.

Below are the topics, presenters and tentative schedules:

Proven Winners (new annuals and perennials) -- Kerry Meyer, 9:10-9:55 a.m. (10-minute Q&A after presentation.)

Resilient ornamental small trees and shrubs -- Tim Moloney, 10:05-10:50 a.m. (10-minute Q&A after presentation.)

Trends in Vegetable Gardening -- Nancy Chapman, 11-11:45 a.m. (10-minute Q&A after presentation.)

Lunch break -- Noon-12:30 p.m.

Irrigation system (selection, design and setup) -- Terry Walkenhorst, 12:30-2 p.m.

Tool Time -- Tim, Al and Heidi will lead a review of favorite tools by CMMG members, 2:15-3:45 p.m.

This is a free program, but participants will need to bring their own lunch.
