Giboney makes history as North Callaway’s first state-qualifying girls wrestler

ST. CHARLES -- Brooke Giboney made history as the North Callaway Ladybirds' first state qualifier, finishing fourth at 105 pounds in the Class 1 District 2 tournament Friday and Saturday at St. Charles West High School.

Giboney (20-13) went 2-2 with two pins, falling by a 7-1 decision to California's Camryn Wingate (40-7) in the third-place match.

North Callaway placed 27th out of 33 teams, scoring 15 points. Brookfield topped the leaderboard with 153½ points, Southern Boone placed second with 131 and Wright City took third with 110.

The Ladybirds' Addison Fansler went 0-2 at 125 in a tough bracket, while North Callaway's third wrestler, Abigail Schmidt, had to scratch due to injury.

Already reaching a significant milestone, Giboney will look to add more when she competes in the Class 1 state tournament from Feb. 21-22 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
