Fulton girls wrestling has four state qualifiers and takes seventh as team at districts

ST. CHARLES -- The Fulton Hornets placed seventh out of 33 teams and had four wrestlers qualify for state in the Class 1 District 2 tournament Friday and Saturday at St. Charles West High School.

Fulton's state qualifiers were Carly Foster, Olivia Weaver, Emmy Begemann and Rilee Swaim.

The Hornets scored 87 points, 23 away from a top-three finish. Brookfield finished first with 153½ points, Southern Boone second with 131 and Wright City third with 110.

Foster earned silver for Fulton at 190 pounds, scoring 22 points and going 2-1 with two pins. In the first-place match, South Callaway's Lilli Lewis (42-3) won by fall (1:16) over Foster (23-11).

Weaver also took second for the Hornets, at 110, tallying 21 points with a 2-1 record and a pin. In the championship bout, Brookfield's Jayden Keller (39-1) won by technical fall-1.5 (2:01 [20-5]) over Weaver (40-14).

At 125, Begemann finished fourth for Fulton, recording 17 points and going 4-2 with three pins. In the third-place match, Chillicothe's Yoo Lee (39-4) won by a 1-0 decision over Begemann (47-9).

Placing fourth as well for the Hornets, Swaim, at 135, notched 15 points and went 3-2 with two pins. In the third-place bout, Mexico's Abigail Bowen (41-12) won by a 4-1 decision over Swaim (41-15).

Posting seven points for the Hornets, Adrienne Johson finished 2-2 with a pin at 155.

Fulton's Savannah Leeper scored five points and went 2-2 with a pin at 120.

The Hornets' four state-boun wrestlers compete in the Class 1 state tournament from Feb. 21-22 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
