Blue Jays extend winning streak to nine

EUREKA, Ill. -- The Westminster College women's basketball team traveled to Eureka, Illinois, for the final road game of its season to take on the Eureka College Red Devils.

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Blue Jays went on to win the game 72-54 and extended their winning streak to nine games.

Westminster improved to 14-9 on the season and 12-4 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, sitting in the No. 2 spot with two games remaining in the regular season.

Eureka fell to 5-18 on the year and 3-13 in the SLIAC.

The Red Devils led 20-11 after the first quarter, jumping out on the Blue Jays. Westminster responded in the second quarter, outscoring Eureka 19-7 to take a 30-27 lead at halftime.

From there, the Blue Jays didn't look back, scoring 30 points in the third quarter and running away to a final score of 72-54.

Caragan Lockard led the Blue Jays with 17 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Annette Ramirez had 12 points, and Chloe Akerson had 11 points, seven assists and three rebounds.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Thursday when they welcome the Scots from Lyon College to the Historic Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
