South Callaway students participate in Columbia College art exhibition

Art students from South Callaway R-II High School at Mokane have been chosen to have their artwork on display at the 19th Annual Columbia College High School Art Exhibition.

In total, 11 South Callaway students are participating in the exhibition alongside students from across Missouri.

The South Callaway art students participating in the exhibition are Alexandra Spence, Owen Rees, Fayth Gwaltney, Olivia Stone, Mariah Coleman, Shelby Howard, Aubrey Relford, Kai Lawson, Kilea Holtmeyer, Memphis Eckert and Finn Winscott.

The exhibition -- located in the Sidney Larson Art Gallery in Brown Hall on Columbia College's Campus -- began Feb. 5. It will remain on display until March 9.

The gallery is open to the public daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

In addition to displaying the artwork for public viewing, the exhibition is a competition for the students.

Categories for the competition are painting, drawing, mixed media/printmaking, photography/digital media/film/animation and sculpture/ceramics/jewelry/fibers and other 3-D media.

Cash prizes and discounts for the Summer Arts Intensive Session will be awarded to the top entries in each category.

Best in show will be awarded to one student, who will receive $100, a $1,000 grant to Columbia College and free registration for the Summer Arts Intensive Session.

The awards presentation will be during the closing reception from 11 a.m.-noon March 9.
