Fulton boys tennis drops hard-fought Senior Night match to Marshall

FULTON, Mo. -- On Senior Night, the Fulton Hornets dropped a hard-fought 4-5 decision to North Central Missouri Conference foe, the Marshall Owls, Thursday at Fulton's tennis courts.

"It was a great matchup for Senior Night," Fulton Hornet Boys Tennis posted on X. "Everyone played well, and I am proud of them. One match went to (a) tiebreaker, and two others nearly did. We improved...our score (of) 2-7 from last year."

Fulton's singles wins were Louis Chuang beating Connor Slusher in an 11-9 tiebreaker at the four slot and Will Wagner-Yates winning 10-3 against Paul Benjamin in the six.

The Hornets doubles winners were Noah Cerneka and Chuang, taking down Joseph Leavitt and Lee Morales in a two-set tiebreaker of 10-10, 7-5 at No. 2, and Chase Smith and Wagner-Yates beating Slusher and Benjamin 10-5 in the No. 3.

Marshall's singles victories were Erlan Jones defeating Beau Edwards 10-2 in the one slot, Andrew Ybarra shutting out Andrew Holmes 10-0 in the two, Leavitt winning 10-8 against Cerneka in the three and Morales prevailing 10-3 against Smith in the five.

The Owls' lone doubles victory was Jones and Ybarra beating Edwards and Holmes 10-3 in the No. 1.

Fulton (1-7-1 overall, 0-4 NCMC) faces Battle (1-6) at 4:30 p.m. today at Battle High School in Columbia.
