Fulton, NB boys T&F rack up medals Centralia Invitational

CENTRALIA, Mo. -- Fulton boys track and field's Noah Combs and New Bloomfield's Ben Speaks and the Wildcats' 4x400-meter relay team earned gold in the Centralia Invitational Tuesday at Centralia High School.

The Hornets scored 55 points to finish seventh out of 14 teams, while New Bloomfield took 10th with 38.

Host Centralia won the team title with 133 points, Southern Boone placed second with 105 and Bowling Green third with 86.

To win the 1,600 (one-mile) run, Combs finished in 4 minutes and 38.53 seconds, winning the event by 3.03 over host Centralia's Rohan Holiman. Combs' teammate Kai Foster also medaled, finishing fourth at 4:53.37.

Additionally, Foster medaled in the 3,200 run, finishing fourth at 10:32.82, and Combs in the 800 run, placing sixth at 2:08.92. Noah Thompson also medaled in the 3,200, placing fifth at 10:35.62.

Combs, Foster and Thompson joined Josh Frazee on Fulton's fifth-place 4x800 relay squad (8:56.1).

New Bloomfield's Speaks continued his tremendous season in the dash events, topping the 200 leaderboard at 23.01, beating out Southern Boone's Braidan Jackson for gold by .21.

The Wildcats' 4x400 relay team of Hunter Rackers, Conor Lawrence, Riley Connell and Speaks took first with a time of 3:36.15, .14 ahead of second-place Southern Boone's quad of Luke Amelunke, Noah Ottinger, Landon Rehg and Brian Burns.

New Bloomfield also medaled in the 4x800, with Connell, Lawrence, Porter Hurt and Jayson Locke taking sixth at 9:26.37.

Fulton's Aiden Fleetwood medaled in two hurdles events, placing second in the 300 (43.87) and sixth in the 110 (17.97). New Bloomfield's Jacob Fuhriman finished behind Fleetwood in the 300, taking third at 45.03.

Will Wagner-Yates received bronze in the pole vault at 12 feet and 5½ inches for the Hornets. Rackers finished fifth in the pole vault at 11-0.

New Bloomfield competes in the South Callaway HS Invitational at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at South Callaway High School in Mokane.

Fulton participates in the McCush Relays at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Boonville High School.
