FULTON -- After landing atop the ITA NAIA men's singles rankings, Vaclav Schneider led William Woods (12-4) to a 7-0 sweep of Ottawa University (8-4) on Thursday.

Schneider clinched the doubles point alongside partner Vitek Subert with a 6-3 win over Bernardo Figueiredo and Almog Cohen, then blasted past Jarmo Wienese 6-2, 6-3 at the one singles.

"Any time you beat a national tournament team 7-0, you feel pretty good," William Woods tennis coach Chance Joost said in a release. "This might have been the most mature performance we've had all season. I'm very proud of the guys, and we'll get after it tomorrow!"

Ben Grumley and Zinovii Nahirniak opened the match with a 6-2 win over Joel Quinonez and Wienese. Ottawa was able to claim the three-doubles match as a consolation, with Santiago Tartaglia and Julian Toloza pulling away for a 6-3 win over Andres De Los Rios Kolejewska and Felix Diedrichs.

Grumley made quick work of Quinonez at the two singles, needing only 51 minutes for the 6-0, 6-0 shutout. After holding off a first-set comeback attempt at the four-line, Stepan Mach closed the match with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Toloza.

Nahirniak and Tartaglia rolled through a pitched three-set battle, with Woods claiming the first set 6-2 and Ottawa taking a 6-4 win in set two. The third set went back and forth, with Tartaglia twice stringing together three straight games to take 2-1 and 5-4 leads, but Nahirniak answered with three straight to close the match and pick up the sweep.

William Woods takes on former AMC foe Freed-Hardeman on Friday and on a short turn, with doubles matches underway at 11 a.m.
