EUGENE -- The New Bloomfield Wildcats lost 5-4 against the Vienna Eagles in their final game of the Eugene Baseball Bash Saturday at Eugene High School.
Despite a four-run deficit in the second inning, New Bloomfield almost came back but couldn't finish it. The Wildcats closed the gap by scoring on an error, a ground out and a triple.
New Bloomfield (3-5) got on the board in the first inning after Ryan Webb doubled, scoring one run.
Vienna (4-4) took the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first, thanks to singles by Waylon Lenning and Hunter Schwartze.
The Eagles added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Gavin Schwartze grounded out, and the Wildcats committed an error, each scoring one run.
Reid Nichols earned the win for Vienna. The right-handed pitcher gave up no hits and runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none.
Matthew Killian took the loss for New Bloomfield. He went five innings, giving up five runs (no earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking one.
Gavin Schwartze started on the mound for the Eagles. The righty surrendered four hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking one.
Wyatt Jordan provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Wildcats with two RBI. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.
Webb, Gavin Stumpf, Gavin Thomas and Jordan each collected one hit for New Bloomfield.
Lenning provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Eagles with two RBI. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day.
Eli Hayes stole two bases for Vienna.
The Eagles turned one double play in the game.
New Bloomfield hosts Show-Me Conference opponent St. Elizabeth (7-2) at 5 p.m. Monday at Rod Haley Field.
