New Bloomfield R-1 School District began the school year on Aug. 21, with the district feeling "confident" about the upcoming year.
"We have started the year with a high attendance, being fully staffed, confident for the future of the year," Sarah Wisdom, the Superintendent of New Bloomfield Schools, said.
She said one goal for the district is to have increasing attendance, along with helping to solve issues that would prevent kids from coming to school.
"We renovated parts of our elementary playground, a completely new early childhood playground, and we were awarded a safety grant for a new phone and intercom system installed this summer," Wisdom said.
She explained the safety of our students is always the highest priority, which is why they installed the new intercom system and renovated the elementary playground.
Wisdom said the district supports students by making them their focus.
"Where we excel as a school is how we meet each students need, whether mentally or physically, we are a very understanding group that wants every student to do well," Wisdom said.
Wisdom said one area the district can improve in is retaining current staff.
"We have a caring group of people who have made healthy relationships with these students, and we do not want to lose that," Wisdom said.
She believes learning more about how to meet the social and emotional needs of their students will always be something they try and improve on.
"We have a fabulous community that is always willing to help the students, with high parent-engagement," Wisdom said.
One example of community involvement can be seen by individuals of the New Bloomfield community donating money to the school for students who cannot afford lunch.
