South Callaway's best season in three years ends in district semifinals
Under first-year coach Stephen Wisch, the South Callaway Bulldogs won their most games since their 2020 district-title-winning team.
"Very proud of our young men," Wisch said. "It was a great group of kids to kind of do my first run as a head coach with, and so right now, it stinks. That's the reality of it. Everybody except for one team ends a year in a loss, right? And so, the reality is, it's stings right now, and it's gonna hurt for a little bit.
In its second state meet as a team, New Bloomfield boys XC places 16thAfter qualifying for state as a team for the second time in team history, New Bloomfield boys cross country placed 16th out of 16 scoring teams in the Class 2 state championships Friday at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
Missing No. 2 runner Nathan Fuhriman, who also didn't run at districts, New Bloomfield's boys team scored 303 points.
Woodland won the team title with 96 points.

Mayfield shatters Fulton girls XC's record state time
Despite moving up a class, the Fulton Hornets had a memorable Class 4 state championships Saturday at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
Making it an unforgettable state meet, Emery Mayfield made all-state and broke the record for Fulton's fastest-ever girls' race at state (18 minutes and 28.6 seconds). The Hornets' previous record holder was Kari Haus, who ran a 19:21.1 at state, 52.5 seconds behind Mayfield.
"Emery's a competitor, man," Yates said. "She starts fast. She runs strong. She runs hard and fast the whole race. And that's just how she rolls, man."
Blue Jays fall 36-18 in season finale
The Westminster College football team traveled to St. Paul, Minnesota, for its season finale against the University of Northwestern Eagles.
The Blue Jays scored 12 points in the fourth quarter as they tried to come back late but went down to the Eagles 36-18.
Westminster ended its season with a 1-8 record overall and went 1-4 in the UMAC. The Eagles improved to 6-3 overall and are undefeated in the UMAC at 5-0 with one game remaining on their schedule.

Callaway County Commission to continue suspended sheriff's salary
The Callaway County Commission tabled a motion to suspend the salary of suspended Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism.
In a meeting of the commission on Nov. 3, it was discussed whether or not to continue paying Chism.
Chism's peace officer's license was suspended on June 9.
Buckle Up, Phone Down goes national
A Missouri roadway safety campaign is traveling nationwide.
Nearly half the state transportation agencies in the country took part in the Missouri Department of Transportation's Buckle Up, Phone Down campaign this year. Efforts culminated with a Buckle Up, Phone Down day Oct. 25.
MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna said other states represented some of the largest growth in the campaign this year. The department has pushed other states to adopt Buckle Up, Phone Down since it was created seven years ago, he said.

Governor, First Lady tour Missouri School for the Deaf
Governor Mike Parson and First Lady Teresa Parson took a tour of the Missouri School for the Deaf on Tuesday.
Chris Daily, superintendent of the Missouri School for the Deaf, led the Parsons on a tour through several classrooms throughout the school's campus.
The Parsons toured the life skills, mathematics and art classrooms in the Wheeler School and five classrooms at Stark Elementary School.
Callaway chamber hosts November community update
The Callaway Chamber of Commerce hosted the November community update Tuesday, when community leaders from across the county provided updates on events.
Jeremy Moreland, president of William Woods University, said the semester continues to be busy. This year marks the "largest group of undergrads starting degrees in the history of the university," Moreland said.
He added this semester has the most students residing on campus since 1980.

Westminster College president provides updates to Rotary
The Fulton Rotary Club received an update about Westminster College at Wednesday's meeting.
Don Lofe, Jr., president and chief transformation officer at Westminster College, expressed the college's aim for its students to become involved in the community.
"That's just so important what we're trying to foster," Lofe said.
North Callaway PTO to honor veterans with Pancake Breakfast Bash
North Callaway High School is set to host the Veterans Day Community Pancake Breakfast Bash from 7-10 a.m. Nov. 11 at North Callaway High School.
This event is made possible through North Callaway PTO, planning to raise money through donations to help grow and maintain North Callaway Schools.
Amber Pipes, president of North Callaway PTO, said the Pancake Breakfast Bash aims to give back to the community.

Comments open for Route BB bridge deck replacement project
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is hosting an online public informational meeting for a project to replace the bridge deck on Route BB.
The bridge deck is located on Route BB over Hillers Creek, north of Route AA near Tebbetts.
According to MoDOT's website, the bridge was built in 1968.
No search underway for Fulton director of administration
The City of Fulton is not searching for a new director of administration, a city spokesperson said Wednesday.
Dallas Ernst, communications consultant for the city, said a search has not begun for a director of administration.
He refused to say when the search process would begin.
