Library events planned for June

The Callaway County Public Library and the Holts Summit Public Library have events planned for throughout June.

Callaway County Public Library

Story Explorers will be Tuesday, June 6 from 6-7 p.m. This month, the book "Maybe Something Beautiful" by F. Isable Campoy and Theresa Howell will be read aloud to kids ages 5-8.

After the story, participants will work together to create a community mural and artwork that can be taken home. Registration is required.

The Callaway County Public Library will host a book sale on Saturday, June 10. The sale will be from 9 a.m.-noon.

Used hardbacks and large paperbacks are one dollar, mass-market paperbacks are 50 cents, kids books are 25 cents and non-fiction books are half-price. Proceeds will benefit the library.

An early bird sale for members of the Friends of the Callaway County Public Library will be on Friday, June 9. Membership is available at the door. It is $5 for individuals or $10 for a family.

The early bird sale will be from 4:30-6 p.m.

Kids ages 9-12 will be challenged to build the tallest tower out of various items they can on Monday, June 12. This event is from 2-3 p.m. Registration is required.

Memory Cafe will be Wednesday, June 14 from 10-11:30 a.m.

The Memory Cafe event is for adults experiencing dementia and their personal care partners. The theme for the June event is gardening.

Registration is required for the Memory Cafe.

A paper flowers craft will be hosted on Tuesday, June 20 from 6-7:30 p.m.

At this event, participants will learn how to make intricate paper flowers and create a small bouquet. Registration is required for this event.

Marko Polo will play live music for kids on Thursday, June 22 from 2-2:45 p.m.

A "Space Camp" will be offered on Monday, June 26. Participants ages 5-8 will learn about space through hands-on activities and interactive learning. Registration is required.

The Snack and Chat Book Discussion for June will be Wednesday, June 28 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

June's book is "Educated: A Memoir" by Tara Westover.

Holts Summit Public Library

The June edition of Missourians at Work is about "The Life and Shoes of Charles Tweedie."

The event will be Tuesday, June 20 from 4-5 p.m.

This event will highlight Charles Tweedie, who made shoes in Jefferson City.

Local historian Henry Gensky will present this event. This event is presented in partnership with the Missouri State Museum.
