Holts Summit teachers benefit from donations at drive-in

Two Holts Summit teachers purchased some additional school supplies for their classrooms thanks to some thirsty donors.

As part of its Limeades for Learning initiative, Sonic Drive-In has matched 50 percent of each donation made to teachers through DonorsChoose, according to a news release.

North Elementary School teachers Jennifer Long and Kourtney Griggs have received a combined $100 from the initiative and used the proceeds to purchase "seat sacks," which allow easier access to school supplies without cluttering the students' table space, Griggs said in her DonorsChoose profile.

"These seat sacks will help my students feel as if they have a special place of their own to store their classroom supplies," Long said in her DonorsChoose profile. "Many of my students don't always bring book bags to school, so these seat sacks will provide them with the safe storage they need."

In addition to seat sacks, Long raises money for Jolly Ranchers and Griggs a pocket chart. The candy will be "behavior motivation," Long said in her profile. The pocket chart will be used to sort sound cards for students' phonics lessons, Griggs said in her profile.

After receiving the full donation for their projects, the teachers thanked the community on their profiles.

"There are not enough words to express my joy, gratitude, and thanks for your generous donations to my class project," Long said. "My students and I are so very appreciative of your support for education and providing such great organization for our classroom."

"Our current seat sacks are tattered and stained, these new seat sacks will be a wonderful addition to the start of a new school year in the fall," Griggs said. "Thank you so much!"
