MEXICO, Mo. -- Fulton's Ethan Milius and Gabe DeFily -- also on the Hornets' district title-winning baseball team -- advanced to the Class 4 track and field state championships.

Taking part in the Class 4 Sectional 2 meet Saturday at Mexico High School, Fulton had seven athletes competing, with Milius and DeFily being the only two going to state next weekend.

Milius and DeFily will compete in the same event at state, the triple jump.

The Hornets' Milius took second in the triple jump (44 feet, 9.5 inches), while DeFily finished fourth (41-1.75).

While he didn't qualify for state, Fulton freshman Will Wagner-Yates placed sixth in the pole vault with a personal record distance of 11-10.75.

Mexico also hosted the Class 3 Sectional 2 meet, which North Callaway competed in. Unfortunately, neither of North Callaway's two athletes recorded a good enough finish to make state.

Concluding the 2023 track and field season for all of Callaway County, Fulton's Milius and DeFily will join 14 other athletes competing in the Class 4 state championships' triple jump at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Adkins Stadium.
