MOBILE, Ala. -- The three-seeded William Woods University men's tennis team was upset by 14-seeded College of Coastal Georgia in the second round of the NAIA National Championship, ending its national title run.
It came down to the final point and did not finish in the Owls' favor.
The match itself was extended by a day.
Day 1 was suspended due to rain, with the Owls leading all three doubles.
Coastal Georgia moves on to the quarterfinals and faces six-seeded Northwestern Ohio.
The Owls finished their season with a 20-5 overall record. They entered the NAIA National Championship ranked third, their highest seeding in program history.
Doubles
- Vaclav Schneider and Ben Grumley finished with a 6-2 win in the one doubles. They led 2-0 on Wednesday when the weather suspended the match.
- Zinovii Nahirniak and Patrick Shelepov clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the two doubles. They possessed a 2-0 lead on Wednesday when the match was suspended.
- Andres De Los Rios Kolejewska and Robert Schorr were up 5-3 at the time of the double's clinch.
Singles
- CCG evened the score with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Grumley in the two singles.
- Schneider put the Owls up 2-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the one singles.
- CCG again evened the score with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the four singles over Shelepov.
- CCG took a 3-2 lead with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Nahirniak in the three singles.
- A 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win for De Los Rios Kolejewska in the five singles evened the score at 3-3.
- Regarding the final point, Marco Salamanca de Arcos fell in the third set with a final score of 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
