New Bloomfield boys golf’s Allen ties for 43rd at state

COLUMBIA -- New Bloomfield's Travis Allen competed in the Class 1 state golf state championship Monday and Tuesday at Country Club of Missouri.

During Round 1, Allen carded a 29-over-par 101, which placed him in 63rd out of 83 competitors.

"He struggled on a few holes, mostly caused by a single errant shot that either caused penalty strokes or put him in difficult locations on the course," New Bloomfield coach Joseph Robinson said. "Overall, he was hitting the ball with great consistency. On his second hole (he started on hole 10), he sunk a 20-25 foot putt to save a bogey. He made some great chips throughout the round, and he played very well even though it poured down heavy rain for eight of the holes and caused a lot of standing water throughout the course."

Capping off his season -- the state tournament -- Allen had his second-best round of the year, firing an 86 to move up 30 spots to finish tied for 43rd.

Ash Groves' Asher Rust won the individual title, shooting a 149 between the rounds; he signed for a 73 in Round 1 and 76 in Round 2.
