Kingdom Telephone recently provided a donation to the Callaway Youth Expo (CYE) to assist with improvement projects at the CYE Fairgrounds.

Kingdom Telephone donated and installed a new sound system for the rodeo arena, a CYE release sates.

This donation is worth approximately $12,000.

Stacie Smithee, CYE board president, said the previous sound system was over 30 years old. Some poles at the fairgrounds were also destroyed by a storm last fall.

"We were completely surprised when Shawn Gilman, plant telecom network manager of Kingdom Telephone Company and Phynx Fiber came to our CYE meeting on March 23 and announced that Kingdom Telephone planned to design and install a new sound system at the fairgrounds," Smithee said in a release.

The new sound system will be used at horse shows, the county fair and the Auxvasse Rodeo.

Funds were budgeted for replacements, but now that money can be allocated to a new build project.

A new concession stand is the next building project for the fairgrounds.

The fairgrounds will host a Swine Jackpot Show on May 27, the Youth Fair from July 11-15 and the Auxvasse Rodeo from Aug. 4-5.
