SPRINGFIELD -- North Callaway Thunderbirds golfer Davis Althiser teed off in Round 1 of the Class 2 state tournament Monday at Rivercut Golf Course.
The Thunderbirds' Althiser carded a 20-over 92 and is currently tied for 43rd. Before making the turn, Althiser shot a 7-over 43 on the front nine.
"He got off to a great start on his second nine, being only 2-over through five holes," North Callaway coach Kalyn Bradshaw said. "The hot day ended after four tough holes. Even though the first round didn't end how he wanted it to, he got great experience on the course today and proved he can play some really good golf."
Althiser will return for the final round of state at 9 a.m. today.
