Megan Kempker, workforce development and training coordinator at the Callaway Chamber of Commerce, was recently selected as the 2023 Rookie of the Year by the Missouri Association of Workforce Development.

She has been at the chamber for one year.

As the workforce development and training coordinator, Kempker writes jobs descriptions, posts jobs online, and connects local businesses with job seekers, a chamber release states.

Kempker has also partnered with local schools to help students with building their resumes and getting them ready for job interviews.

She has created partnerships with the superintendents and counselors of local schools to participate in National Manufacturing Day at local manufacturing facilities. Kempker has "assisted businesses in setting up tours at the Department of Corrections to assist in bridging the gap between employers and ex-offenders," a release states.

She also recently brought in the Be Pro Be Proud job simulator from Arkansas to showcase skilled trades to over 1,000 students throughout the county.

"It is an honor to receive this award," Kempker said in a release. "I have thoroughly enjoyed building these partnerships in Callaway County with the schools and local businesses. The best part of this position is introducing students to new career opportunities and helping inspire the next generation of Callaway Counties workforce."
