GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Westminster College softball team traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville University Panthers in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament quarterfinals.

This game would be the sixth time these two teams have squared off this season, so they were very familiar with each other heading into this conference tournament game.

The Blue Jays would start with a 2-0 lead after scoring in the first and third inning.

Emily Esquivel (San Diego/Eastlake) started the game with a double to center field. Then, she would move up to third on a groundout.

Haylee Chanderl (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) drew a one out to walk to put runners on the corners.

Eva Gannon (Wentzville/Holt) stepped to the plate with two outs in the inning and delivered an RBI double to left center field to score Esquivel and put the Jays up 1-0.

Esquivel would lead off the top of the third as well, and she would hit a single through the left side this time, making her 2-2 on the day thus far. She would steal second base to put a runner in scoring position and one out.

Chandler would get a base hit to right field to move Esquivel up to third and put runners on the corners.

Gannon would once again step to the plate with two outs in the inning. She would reach first after an error by the Panthers' shortstop and allowing Esquivel to score, putting Westminster up 2-0.

The Panthers' bats would get hot in the bottom of the third inning, scoring six runs and taking a 6-2 lead. They would score again in the fourth inning and two more runs in the sixth to go on and win the game 9-2.

With the victory, Greenville advanced to the conference semifinal game on Thursday.

The Blue Jays finish their season with a 4-36 record.
