Blue Jays take the series in a dominant Saturday doubleheader

ELSAH, Ill. -- The Westminster Blue Jays baseball team finished the regular series in a conference doubleheader against Principia College.

The Blue Jays won Game 1 19-0 and Game 2 17-2.

The Blue Jays end the regular season going 23-17 and a conference record 12-9.

Game 1

The Blue Jays started Bode Gebbink (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden). Gebbink finished the season (7-1).

Gebbink pitched 4⅓ innings giving up one hit, striking out four batters and giving up two walks.

Coming in to finish the game for Gebbink were Jake Waeltermann (Barnhart/Seckman), Brooks Chandler (De Land, Fla./DeLand) and Hayden Sanborn (Arnold/St. John Vianney).

Waeltermann pitched ⅔ inning with two strikeouts. Chandler pitched one inning facing three batters. Sanborn closed the game facing three batters and struck out all three.

Troy Romero (Trophy Club, Texas/Byron Nelson), Payton Whitehead (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West), Quin Adelson (Louisville, Ky./North Oldham) and Jason Pesold (Arnold/St. Pius X) led the Blue Jays offensively.

Romero went 3-4 with a triple, an RBI and scored two runs. Whitehead was 2-2 with two walks, an RBI and scored three runs. Adelson went 2-2, scoring three runs and three RBI. Pesold went 3-5 with an RBI and scored two runs.

Coltin Green and Chris Louie had home runs in the game. Green hit two home runs with seven RBI. Louie hit one home run and got two RBI.

Game 2

Pitching for the Blue Jays in Game 2, Trent Morrow (Russellville/Russellville) pitched four innings facing 17 batters. They gave up four hits and struck out three batters.

In relief for Morrow, Brian Henke (Silex/Silex), Nathan Shepard (Warrenton/Warrenton) and Kaleb Hinkle-Pruett (Alton, Ill./Roxana).

Henke pitched one inning facing seven batters, giving up two hits and striking out three. Shepard pitched one inning facing four batters and gave up one hit. Closing the game, Hinkle-Pruett pitched one inning and went three up and three down.

Matt Lukins (Clark/Rock Bridge), Steven Diaz (Highland, Ill./Highland), Green and Skyler Bushey (Saint Albans, Vt./ Bellows Free Academy) led the Blue Jays in Game 2.

Lukins went 3-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Diaz went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Green went 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Bushey finished his historic year by going 3-6 with a double and two home runs. He sits at 16 home runs for the season and is tied for third all-time in SLIAC history for most home runs in a season.

The Blue Jays' next game is at home Tuesday against conference rival the Greenville University Panthers. The time of the game is to be determined.
