William Woods softball sweeps Lyon for second conference sweep

COLUMBIA -- The William Woods University softball team swept Lyon College Saturday evening to remain perfect in American Midwest Conference play. The Owls shut out the Scots in both games, 5-0 in Game 1 and 6-0 in Game 2.

The Owls move to 10-17 on the season with a 4-0 conference mark.

The Owls finish their home stretch with a conference doubleheader versus Columbia College starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Game 1

The Owls shut out the Scots 5-0.

Arianna Donovan hit an RBI double in the second to score WWU's Mariah Prince.

Annika Ramon scored on Crystal Ruden's at-bat in the fourth to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Sam Abernathy scored on the Owls' Jessica Keilholz's at-bat.

Ally Mahoney's two-RBI single in the fifth plate the two final WWU runs.

The Owls put up eight hits coming from seven batters.

Donovan went 2-2 from the plate with a double; one run scored and one RBI.

The Owls' runners finished with four stolen bases. Ruden had two.

Pitching: Sarah Randermann (6-8) pitched the complete game win for the Owls. She allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out eight.

Game 2

The Owls put up five runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Ramon scored on Taylor Bell's fielder's choice to put the first run on the board. Iliana Manzano hit a two-RBI double to center field to score Sydney Wilbeck and Randermann. Keilholz hit an RBI double to plate Manzano. Prince smashed a triple to the center field fence to score Keilholz.

Cheyenne Ausborn hit an RBI double to score Randermann in the sixth, plating the sixth and final run of the game.

Five of the Owls' seven hits were for extra bases (double -- Ausborn, Mazano, Keilholz, Randermann; triple -- Prince).

Pitching: Keilholz (4-8) pitched the complete game win. She allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out five.
