Prince hits a grand slam, William Woods softball sweep WC in dominating fashion

COLUMBIA -- The William Woods University softball team swept NCAA Division III Westminster College Friday afternoon.

The Owls short-gamed the Blue Jays in Game 1 with Mariah Prince's grand slam and six RBI, 11-2. The team scored 10 in the second inning of Game 2, leading to a second five-inning win, 10-1.

With the sweep, the Owls improve to 5-16 on the season.

Game 1

The Owls scored their 11 runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to short-game the Blue Jays.

Prince hit a grand slam in the fourth and RBI doubles in the third and the fifth. She went 3-4 from the plate with six RBI.

The Owls finished with nine total hits. Four players finished with extra-base hits -- Iliana Manzano, Jessica Keilholz, Arianna Donovan and Prince.

Keilholz went 2-3 from the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.

Pitching: Sarah Randermann (3-8) pitched the complete game win. She struck out three and allowed just two runs.

Game 2

The Owls scored all 10 runs in the second inning, leading to a 10-1 five-inning win.

Prince hit an RBI double to plate the first run of the game. Then, on her second at-bat of the inning, she batted in two runs on an error.

Jaden Swift hit an RBI ground out for the winning run.

Taylor Bell hit a base-clearing triple to put the Owls up 5-0.

Keilholz hit a RBI double.

Donovan ended the Owls' rally with a two-run homer.

The Owls recorded nine hits from nine players, with five being extra-base hits -- Keilholz, Prince, Swift, Bell and Donovan.

Pitching: Keilholz (2-7) pitched the complete game win. She struck out five of the 18 batters and allowed just two hits and one run.

The Owls travel to Missouri Valley College for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
