Six South Callaway Bulldogs were named to the Show-Me Conference's all-conference teams and Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association's Class 3 District 7 all-district teams, announced the South Callaway Bulldog Baseball 2023 account via Facebook Saturday.
McKendree University signee Jacob Martin led the Bulldogs this season, which showed in the postseason awards -- the senior earned Show-Me Conference MVP, first-team all-conference and all-district.
Rounding out South Callaway's award-winning players were Ryan Lepper (first-team all-conference and all-district), Dane Daugherty (first-team all-district and second-team all-conference), Owen Rees (second-team all-conference and all-district), JT Thomas (second-team all-district and honorable mention all-conference) and Ethan Edwards (second-team all-district and honorable mention all-conference).
Beginning with ace Martin, the Bulldog went 8-3 with a 1.08 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 71⅓ innings this season. At the plate, he recorded a .351 batting average with 34 hits -- 12 extra-base hits, including 10 doubles and two home runs -- 27 RBI, 22 walks and 14 stolen bases in 32 games.
Lepper recorded two of South Callaway's postseason wins and had three complete-game victories on the mound this season.
Lepper went 6-1 this season with a 2.24 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 50 innings. Offensively, he tallied a .448 batting average with 47 hits -- 17 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles, four home runs and a triple -- 29 RBI, 14 walks and 20 stolen bases in 32 games.
Daugherty, won notched a win in the Bulldogs' Class 3 Final Four victory against tied for top-ranked Portageville, went 6-1 with a 2.62 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 45⅓ innings. At the plate, he registered a .299 batting average with 23 hits -- three extra-base hits, all doubles -- 13 RBI, 16 walks and seven stolen bases in 32 games.
Rees hit in the three-hole for South Callaway, recording a .321 batting average with 35 hits -- five extra-base hits, including four doubles and a triple -- 30 RBI, nine walks and 14 stolen bases in 32 games this year.
In his final season with the Bulldogs, Thomas batted .300 with 27 hits -- five extra-base hits, including four doubles and a triple -- 12 RBI, 14 walks and 13 stolen bases in 32 games. On the mound, he went 2-3 with a 5.25 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 25⅓ innings.
Edwards, South Callaway's cleanup hitter, hit .273 with 27 hits -- four extra-base hits, including three doubles and a home run -- 20 RBI, nine walks and three stolen bases in 32 games this spring. As a pitcher, he went 1-0 with a 2.47 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11⅓ innings.
South Callaway will soon find out if any of its players who took second in Class 3 made the MHSBCA all-state teams.
