New Bloomfield girls basketball beats Paris in Sturgeon Tournament fifth-place game

In the fifth-place game of the 39th Annual Sturgeon Tournament, No. 5 seed New Bloomfield girls basketball won 46-28 against No. 7 seed Paris Saturday morning at Sturgeon High School.

The Lady Wildcats led after all four quarters -- 7-4, 15-8, 36-17 and 46-28.

New Bloomfield's Ashlyn Peters scored a game-high 27 points, including six 3s; she had 21 points in the second half.

Paris' Reese Sutton scored a team-high 10 points.

"Struggled early in the game making shots but had a great third quarter (hit 5 3s in the third)," New Bloomfield coach Brett Craighead said. "We made 10 3s as a team for the game. Our defense was solid throughout the entire game. Had a great effort that I hope gives us some confidence to finish the rest of the season."

Up next, New Bloomfield (5-14, 0-2) faces in-county South Callaway (0-15, 0-1) in a Show-Me Conference game at 6 p.m. Monday in Mokane. The Lady Wildcats have beaten the Lady Bulldogs by at least 11 points in their first two meetings this season.
