William Woods women’s tennis falls to NCAA D2 No. 16 Washburn

The No. 22 William Woods women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-0 loss to NCAA Division II Washburn University Saturday in Topeka, Kansas. Washburn was ranked No. 15 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Preseason Coaches Poll.

Hanna Lindeboom and Marta Calvo Larraz won the Owls' lone match on court one in doubles. They defeated Sonia Smagina and Marta Torres 6-4.

On court two, Eline Drent and Lena Greefs made a run to clinch the doubles point, taking their opponents to a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2).

Singles

Smagina (Washburn) defeated Lindeboom (William Woods), 6-2, 6-1.

Maja Jung (Washburn) defeated Calvo Larraz (William Woods), 6-1, 6-2.

Torres (Washburn) defeated Greefs (William Woods), 6-1, 7-6 (6).

Issabella Pensavalle (Washburn) defeated Zara Littlejohn (William Woods), 6-1, 6-1.

Isabella Martensson (Washburn) defeated Drent (William Woods), 6-1, 6-1.

Maddie Shelley (Washburn) defeated Kaja Brunzlow (William Woods), 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles

Lindeboom/Calvo Larraz (William Woods) defeated Smagina/Torres (Washburn), 6-4.

Martensson/Lara Schmid (Washburn) defeated Drent/Greefs (William Woods), 7-6 (7-2).

Casie Curry/Jung (Washburn) defeated Hannah Meyer/Littlejohn (William Woods), 6-1.
