SC boys wrestling’s Benninfield wins division in Warrenton Tournament

South Callaway boys wrestling's Elijah Benningfield took first in the 190-pound weight class, and the Bulldogs placed eight out of nine teams in the Warrenton Tournament Saturday in Warrenton.

Benningfield scored a team-high 24 points for South Callaway, notching a pin and decision victory en route to the title. In the championship match, he beat Warrenton's Jacob Ruff by decision (6-5).

The Bulldogs' Noah Kinney and Aaron Hargis each placed second while earning 20 points, respectively.

Kinney (144) had two pins and lost by fall (2:49) to Hallsville's Gavynn Carpenter in the title match. Hargis (157) recorded a pin and decision each before falling by fall (5:47) to Warrenton's Anthony Lombardo in the final.

South Callaway's Ayden Munford (150) rounded out the Bulldogs' top four finishes, placing fourth with 15 team points. Munford registered a pin and major decision.

Rounding out South Callaway's team, Brenton Shirley (285) finished sixth with seven points.

Next, South Callaway will host the SC Tri, taking on Owensville and Fatima at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Mokane.
