No. 11 William Woods men’s tennis falls to NCAA D2 No. 16 Washburn

The No. 11 William Woods University men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 6-1 loss to NCAA Division II Washburn University. Washburn was ranked No. 16 in the ITA Preseason Coaches Poll.

Vaclav Schneider grabbed the lone point for the Owls, defeating Tim Hammes on court one. After trailing 6-4 following the first set, he bounced back and won the next two, 7-5 and 10-7.

Sebastian Pjontek (Washburn) defeated Ben Grumley (William Woods), 6-4, 6-4.

Santiago Rendon (Washburn) defeated Patrick Shelepov (William Woods), 6-2, 7-6 (3).

Daniel Bird (Washburn) defeated Zinovii Nahirniak (William Woods), 6-4, 6-0.

Noah Neideck (Washburn defeated Andres De Los Rios Kolejewska (William Woods), 7-6 (2), 6-3.

Moritz Peiper (Washburn) defeated Robert Schorr (William Woods), 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles

Pjontek/Neideck (Washburn) defeated Shelepov/Nahirniak, 6-4.

Hammes/Rendon (Washburn) versus Grumley/De Los Rios Kolejewska, unfinished (5-4).

Miquel Perez/Pieper (Washburn) defeated Schneider/Schorr (William Woods), 6-4.
