Dominant second half leads William Woods men’s basketball to win over HLG

A dominant final four minutes to the game led William Woods men's basketball to a road win over Hannibal-LaGrange Saturday afternoon in Hannibal, 54-45. The perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line in the four minutes and Darius Yohe's double-double helped the Owls improve to 11-10 on the season with a 5-6 conference mark.

How it happened

The Owls started strong as they put an 8-0 lead within the first three minutes with six points coming from in the paint. An 8-0 HLG run put HLG in charge of the lead, but Grant Peters laid in a bucket with 11:06 on the clock to take back the lead, 13-12.

HLG took back the lead on the next play and held at least a one-play lead throughout the remainder of the half. The Owls went into halftime trailing by three, 27-24.

The two teams evened the score three times in the second half. The Owls grabbed hold of the lead four minutes in, and while HLG evened the score, the Owls maintained possession of it.

With 6:09 to go, HLG cut the game to one on a 3 from Bryce Stark, 41-40. However, neither team could find the hoop over the next two minutes.

A steal from Fred Robinson and two good free throws resulting from the foul on his fast break shot kicked off the Owls' 13-5 run to close the game. In that time, the team shot a perfect 9-0 from the line to win 54-45.
