South Callaway boys basketball falls to state-ranked Westran in Sturgeon Tournament

Class 2 No. 9, No. 1 seed Westran beat No. 4 seed South Callaway boys basketball 62-56 in the championship bracket semifinals of the 39th Annual Sturgeon Tournament Thursday night at Sturgeon High School. As a result, the Bulldogs drop to 10-9, while the Hornets move to 17-3.

South Callaway was led in scoring by Evan Sconce-Martin with 17 points. The Bulldogs' Tayber Gray notched 15 points and six assists, Adam Loucks had 11 points and Ryan Lepper pulled down 10 boards.

"We didn't shoot the ball the way we are capable of, and that ultimately led to us not being successful on the night," South Callaway coach Seth Thomas said. "Other than that, we competed and worked our tails off the whole entire game. I love how we are guarding and playing defense right now."

No. 4 seed South Callaway will face Class 2 No. 5, No. 2 seed New Franklin (17-2) in the third-place game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Sturgeon High School.
