New Bloomfield boys basketball loses to Community in Sturgeon Tournament

Eighth-seeded New Bloomfield boys basketball lost 55-38 against No. 5 seed Community in the consolation bracket semifinals of the 39th Annual Sturgeon Tournament Thursday night at Sturgeon Middle School.

Andrew Fouch had 10 points, five rebounds, two steals, and two blocks to lead the way for the Wildcats.

"He played his best game of the season," New Bloomfield coach Zach Buscher said. "He has been our hardest worker, and it is good to see him rewarded with a solid performance."

With the result, the Wildcats fall to 0-19, while the Trojans improve to 11-9.

"Credit to the boys for coming out and playing hard in this one," Buscher said. "I thought we showed improvement and locked down defensively for 85% of the game. There was a little lapse in focus at the start of the fourth quarter, which made a 10-point game balloon into (a) sizable margin quickly. As we mature on the court, we will make sure we are locked in for all four quarters."

Next, New Bloomfield (0-19, 0-4) will play a Show-Me Conference game against Eugene (14-3, 3-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 in Eugene, Missouri.
