The Callaway County Nuclear Plant will have an inspection later this year from the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The comprehensive engineering team inspection will be made up of "seven personnel from the NRC Region IV office," according to a release from the NRC.

The purpose of the inspection is to verify certain structures, systems and components have been maintained "and will operate within their design and licensing bases requirements."

NRC's inspection process will begin in March, when an onsite information gathering visit will take place at the Callaway Nuclear Plant from March 20-24.

This onsite visit will be done by the engineering team inspection lead.

The purpose of this initial visit is "to meet with your staff to become familiar with Callaway Plant's SSCs (structures, systems and components), programs, processes, and procedures and to ensure the resources needed to support the team, as necessary, to conduct an effective and efficent inspection," a release states.

Offsite preparation will be conducted by the team on May 1-5.

The onsite inspection will be completed throughout May. The first inspection week is May 8-12, and the second inspection week is May 22-26.

Prior to the inspection visit, two requests for information were sent to the Callaway Nuclear Plant. The first request relates to information about general inspection samples, while the second request relates to information about a specific sample.

The first request includes 21 documents that are due to the inspection team by Mar. 13.

The second request has a number of documents requested for each sample type, and they are due by April 24.
