Russellville’s defense and pressure challenge South Callaway girls basketball

In a Show-Me Conference matchup, Russellville beat South Callaway girls basketball 66-35 Thursday night in Russellville.

The Lady Indians led after each quarter -- 18-2, 37-8, 50-25 and 66-35.

Reagan Arrowood guided the Lady Bulldogs' offense with a team-high 16 points, with 14 coming in the second half. South Callaway's McKenzie Laughlin tallied eight points, while Lacey Matthews had seven.

"Russellville's defense and pressure gave us challenges early in the game," South Callaway coach Daniel Burns said. "We struggled to take care of the ball and had too many turnovers that they converted to points.

"We bounced back and had a big third quarter, scoring (17) points in the third. We did some things differently in the second half, which gave us a little spark, but overall, we weren't consistent enough to get the job done."

With the result, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-17 overall and 0-3 in the Show-Me Conference, while Russellville improved to 13-8 and 4-1.

It doesn't get any easier for South Callaway as it faces Linn (14-7, 2-1 Show-Me Conference) in the Lady Cats' court warming game at 6 p.m. tonight in Linn.
