One arrested after fleeing traffic accident in Holts Summit

The Holts Summit Police Department arrested a suspect Monday morning after a hit-and-run traffic accident.

At 6:36 a.m., the HSPD responded to a report of a traffic accident at the intersection of Simon Blvd. and Summit Dr. A pickup truck rear-ended a passenger vehicle at the intersection, according to a post made by Chief of Police Matthew Palmer on the HSPD Facebook page.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was injured in the accident.

After rear-ending the other vehicle, the pickup truck fled the scene.

A citizen at the scene of the accident was able to get the license number of the truck as it fled, according to the post.

The HSPD was able to arrest the driver of the pickup truck thanks to the information provided by the citizen.

The Jefferson City Poice Department and the MUSTANG Drug Task Force assisted Holts Summit officers in the arrest. The Holts Summit Fire Protection District and the Callaway County EMS assisted at the scene of the accident and provided patient care.

The suspect was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident/physical injury (felony) and operating a motor vehicle without maintaining financial responsibility (misdemeanor), according to the post.

The investigation in this incident is still ongoing, and more charges may be sought against the suspect.
