New Bloomfield boys basketball wins first game of the season

New Bloomfield boys basketball won its first game of the campaign after beating Lighthouse Prep 79-55 Tuesday in Jefferson City.

Nathan Fuhriman led the Wildcats offensively with a career-high 32 points, while Brayden Nilges pulled down 18 rebounds.

"We played poorly in the first half," New Bloomfield coach Zach Buscher said. "There was little effort, and we were lucky to end the half up one. After we reset, the boys started really working hard, and it showed. We won the second half by 23.

"Congrats to Nate on a career-high! Brayden really played well. He rebounded great and was strong in the paint. Also, it was great to see Jacob Fuhriman back from injury. He provided a spark in limited minutes off the bench. He will prove to be big for us down the stretch run once he gets back into the flow of everything.

"All in all, it was a great second half, and the boys should be proud."

Up next, New Bloomfield (1-19, 0-4) will take on Eugene (15-5, 3-1) in a Show-Me Conference game at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Eugene, Missouri.
